چکیده

We propose a service discovery architecture called VSD (Service Discovery based on Volunteers) for heterogeneous and dynamic pervasive computing environments. The proposed architecture uses a small subset of the nodes called volunteers that perform directory services to facilitate efficient service discovery. In VSD, stable and capable nodes serve as volunteers whereas relatively dynamic and less capable nodes depend on the volunteers. Thus VSD recognizes node heterogeneity in terms of mobility and capability. We discuss characteristics of VSD architecture and methods to improve connectivity among volunteers for higher discovery rate. By showing that VSD performs quite well in MANET scenarios, we validate our hypothesis that VSD is a flexible and adaptable architecture appropriate for dynamic pervasive computing environments. VSD incorporates several novel features: i) handles dynamism and supports self-reconfiguration; ii) provides physical locality and scalability; and iii) improves reliability and copes with uncertainty through redundancy by forming overlapped clusters.

Weighted-HR: An Improved Hierarchical Grid Resource Discovery

Grid computing environments include heterogeneous resources shared by a large number of computers to handle the data and process intensive applications. In these environments, the required resources must be accessible for Grid applications on demand, which makes the resource discovery as a critical service. In recent years, various techniques are proposed to index and discover the Grid resource...

A semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...

A context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...

Resource discovery in modern computing environments

Resource discovery is an integral part of many kinds of computing environments, including emerging heterogeneous environments for pervasive computing. This paper characterises a number of current and future computing environments and summarises their resource discovery requirements. It then analyses, with respect to the requirements of each environment, several established service discovery pro...

JCSP Agents-Based Service Discovery for Pervasive Computing

Device and service discovery is a very important topic when considering pervasive environments. The discovery mechanism is required to work in networks with dynamic topology and on limited software, and be able to accept different device descriptions. This paper presents a service and device discovery mechanism using JCSP agents and the JCSP network package jcsp.net2.
